TSS I agree with you 100% on the punter situation and every yard counts [...] so a Healthy RB who gets  2 yards every time would be better than a unhealthy Parker

Come on now,  dragging Isaac Whatshisface into a discussion of punting and punters?

Anyway, the Steelers do have a healthy RB who gets 2 yards every time. His name is Rashard Mendenhall.

IT'S Apples to Apples Mendenhall doesen't get every carry so Parker's abilty to gain yards when he spells Mendenhall is relevant if you really are serious when you say every yard counts......And at this point I would rather see you get the carries instead of Parker he is not healthy enough to play........I never said a name.........

Let me start off by saying i like sepulveda. Hes obviously an upgrade from berger and im glad we have him. I think TSS mischaracterizes sep's influence on the minn game. To listen to tss youd think sep had an some sort of impact on the outcome. Sep dropped it inside minnesotas 20 yard line twice. One was a 44 yard punt to the minn 18(hardly a situational punt). He booted it as far as he could. The other (an actual situational punt) was a 30 yarder to the minnesota 17. I say that is nothing to rave about.

I go exclusively on the eyeball test.

If some of you can't see the drastic improvement in the punting game with Sepulveda instead of Berger...  you need an eye exam.

I dont think anybody is questioning the improvement from berger. I think its about whether he was worth trading a sixth to move up 7 spots in the 4th round to draft him.

I understand. I just think it's splitting hairs. As long as there is a big improvement at that position I have no problem trading a 6th to get the guy we want.

as i have said in the past.  i hope he doesn't out kick the coverage.    say what you want about berger, but last year we didn't have any major returns.   was the coverage that much better??   i don't think so.   think back to sep's first year.    we had punts returned for TD's, we also had alot returned for big yards.    last year, shorter punts, thats for sure, but we ended up with just about the same net and no big returns or TD's.   this year sep is back.  more return yards and again we are questioning the kick coverage units.   what is the one constant in the bad coverage years?   sep.   why is this????      berger kicking in the thin air, will kick short 37 yards let's say, with a fair catch because the coverage is all over him.    sep booms one 55 yards,  with a 25 yard return, because our coverage units don't know if it's going 60 or 30.  what are we gaining for those two draft picks????????????????   just saying we are actually getting less with sep then we were with berger.   i'm not saying we bring back berger, just that longer is not always better in the punt game.  we were also pretty even with ones inside the 20 with berger or sep.   we have not gained much.   our opponants have out kicked us this year, and we have a specialized returner now.   i don't see what all the hubbub is about with sep.   is it he looks like a lb'er???   i don't hate the guy or anything, it's just about x's and o's.   not much of a diffrence, except for the TD's and field position we give up for those two draft picks.

Maybe if Colbert had correctly put Roethlsiberger ahead of Manning and Rivers and selected him #1 overall would I give him credit in his ''evaluation process''.  But he basically got who was left.

I think thats a bit of a stretch Del......

1) Colbert did not have the number one pick...so we do not know who his pick would be

2) Cowher was on record as wanting Philip Rivers....but I never heard Colbert tip his hand on the draft.

3) 10 other teams passed on Ben....including the Giants and Chargers...who selected QB's.

4) It was pretty well known the Giants had them ranked Eli, Ben, Rivers (along with most of the GM's in the league)  The Chargers had them ranked Eli, Rivers, Ben (thank god they did)...I myself had them Ben, Eli, Rivers......today I might say Ben, Rivers, Eli....I wanted nothing to do with Rivers...and had it been him instead of Ben at 11....I would have probably drafted the CB and been wrong.  Rivers has played pretty good...and I did not think he would.

In 2008 when Sepulveda was out, the Steelers gave up 6.2 yards per punt return, with a long of 46 and no TDs.

In 2009 with Sepulveda back, the Steelers give up a very similar 6.7 yards per punt return, with a long of 26 and no TDs.

Sepulveda doesn't outkick the coverage or cause big returns.  He places the ball effectively, using distance as the circumstances dictate.
