Has anyone read the homepage fan questionaire with frank....... I like his answers when asked about ST or his attitude towards playing. He says he really likes hitting people,,,that he feels like a defensive guys playing offense and looks foward to making contact.........Isn't that just about the perfect attitude a FB should have? If we're gonna improve our run game a solid blocking FB who can also catch and run is just what the doctor ordered.......... Can't wait to see what happens come training camp and they strap on the pads!!!!!!!!!! Cajun- |

Oddly enough, the 2 guys I am most interested in watching/hearing about in camp are both RB's. Mendenhall and big Frank. |

First of all let me preface this by saying i'm a UNLV fan as well as a Steeler fan. So i got to see frank play quite a bit.
I think Frank will initially make the team as a special teams player. He was UNLV's starting tailback, but on important punt return plays number 4 would be the gunner. I've seen him bust wedges on kickoff, and make some great blocks on punt return. He's an excellent tackler for an offensive player as well, and knows how to deliver a blow. We like to keep extra linebackers on the roster as special teams players, and i think that Frank gives you that sort of ability where you don't feel bad if you decide to keep 6 RBs.
On offense he's got fluid, nifty feet, very smooth acceleration out of cuts. And he can make that 2 step cut on a dive play to get to the second level. He doesn't fumble. He has very natural hands and good vision for cutting back. He is not top end fast. He sometimes tries too hard to deliver punishment and leaves yards on the field. Can move the pile. Not much experience as a run blocker though he's an above average pass blocker, and a dangerous safety valve. He's a bright guy and has a great work ethic, but he's still going to have to learn special teams and the offense and that might be a bit much to ask of him.
He's just a good football player.
But the part that gets me excited is him and Mendy in the same backfield. 480 pounds of running back just feels good to say!

I'm excited about the potential of Frank but I think like many other fans, I may have too high of hopes for him already. We keep wanting to get back to the bang 'em days of Bettis, Foster, Morris, Harris, etc but in reality our offense has changed. If Mendenhall can reach his potential, he's perfect for Arian's offense based on his combo of speed, power, and pass catching skills. Summers could develop into a good short yardage or possibly special teams guy but that is likely his limit. There's a reason he dropped to the 5th round. If he becomes any more than that it's probably because our 1st rounder from last year becomes a bust. |

frank just brings more to the table. if he can block. mchugh is the ace in the hole if not. frank is more offensive right now then davis. running and receiving. the blocking part will be the deciding factor. mchugh takes care of that, so i don't see davis making it just on ST's. with madison, bailey and a few others as able as davis is. |

I don't know if I want to go as far as predicting what this kid can do but I will say that I like his answers.
Attitude is just about equal with talent for the first couple weeks of camp. Talent will rise eventually if they understand but Anthony Smith is a recent reminder that a lot more goes into a great player than physical ability. If he can indeed learn the playbook so that he can "just play" then my ears will be perked.
I love smash mouth football and I love the way this young fella thinks. |
