Looks like it could be a good thing, as long as he doesn't lose speed along with it!

'Updating a previous report, John Harris, of Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers WR Santonio Holmes said he believes the weight he has added this offseason will help him get off jams from cornerbacks better and get separation. 'I really need that strength in the upper body because I know I'm going to start getting more and more Cover-2 this season. I'm going to face a lot more bigger corners this year than I did in previous years, so I've got to get off those jams and separate myself from those guys,' Holmes said. '

Just like a boxer who moves up in weight class.... the least amount of weight they put on, the less they will have to change their strategy and style. As long as Holmes does not put on ... I say no more than 12-15 lbs, he should be alright. You have to "master" that extra weight by adding the appropriate muscle to move it around.... which takes an enormous amount of working out....

I have watched Holmes and have noticed him having trouble getting off the line sometimes......As long as he is adding good weight I think it will be good for him and the Team......This may have been one of the factors  as to why a lot of his big plays took so long to develop as he had trouble getting seperation off the line in press coverage.....

That new ring must account for at least 1 lb.

If Holmes believes it to be good, than so be it.

I personally don't think he should focus on getting heavier. He has mastered his bodies weight (how could he have made that catch) and I believe that getting heavier may really change his play a little too much.

Timmons,  Parker and now Holmes are looking beefed up..... hope all their speed remains.

if it's muscle mass it shouldn't matter, it just means they'll be stronger, faster. If it's fat.... well that's another story

I like his reasoning. He said that because of his success, he is going to be a marked man next season. To withstand playing almost every down and taking more abuse, he needs a little extra weight to help accomplish his goals.

He said that he expects to play around 195...that isn't exactly a real big guy. If he feels more confident at 195, I highly doubt that it will slow him down very much.

He's going to be pressed more at the line of scrimmage; after how he dissected the Cardinals pass D, anybody would be foolish to let him just have a clean release when the ball is snapped. Players should come into camp bulked up, they are going to lose a few pounds by the time the regular season starts, especially WR who run route after route after route in the summer heat. Plus, I'm pretty sure he's doing all of this with his team trainer's input and more importantly guidance.

He's probably a bit envious of all those blocks that Hines has been laying people out with and now wants to join the party...

If he adds more muscle mass, it will do him tons of good.  My vote is good thing.
