'The Steelers did it again. They had a shot at every college player in the country except three and managed to come up with a guy nobody ever heard of.'(Disgruntled fan after Joe Greene was drafted) I expect that the guy had a long stay at a mental hospital and recovered. Got any good quotes about the black and gold? |

On August 28, 1979, Post-Gazette columnist Vito Stellino wrote this: It has dawned on the fans that it is likely that nobody in our lifetime is going to play quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers as well as Bradshaw is going to play for the next five or six years. Think about that. It is true. Bradshaw will eventually be replaced in the future. That happens to all athletes. But 'replace' is the wrong word. He may never be replaced. It is just a fact that some other player will be quarterbacking for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But replacing him will be all but impossible. The moral of the story is, of course, be careful about using phrases such as ''noboby in our lifetime.'' I doubt Vito (who I think bolted to a Baltimore newspaper a few years after writing that) thinks of Roethlisberger as just 'some other player.' |

To TheStallworthSwann, actually Vito Stellino bolted to Jacksonville, Florida, and is now writing for the Florida Times-Union. He still connects to Pittsburgh, and many of his articles are about the Steelers. |

'I am very aggressive and very physical. On the field I guess I am just plain mean.' Jack Lambert.
'If I could start my life all over again, I would be a professional football player, and you (bad word) well better believe I would be a Pittsburgh Steeler.' Jack Lambert, 1990 HoF Introduction. My Favorite.

This one isn't by a Steeler, but it's awesome... 'He had no teeth, and he was slobbering all over himself. I'm thinking, 'You can have your money back, just get me out of here. Let me go be an accountant.' I can't tell you how badly I wanted out of there.' Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983). |

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983). I have referenced this game quite often. I'm sure that Brian Sipe had quite a few things to say about Lambert as well. Remember that Lambert purposely drilled Sipe when he was already long out of bounds once in a game. One of the most viscious hits I ever remember.
