colon was tender a first round pick (2,5 milion) , wasting about 1milion , looking atlanta tendered clabo (better than colon) a 3rd . kemo could have been replaced by essex or a cheaper free agent but maybe they see something that we don't know . btw miller is a priority

Why do we keep drafting TE's if Miller is a priority? Seriously, I want to know because I'm a it baffled by it?

I think hey tendered Colon so high not because he was worth it, but because the Steelers potentially might have lost a too many O-linemen this offseason.

The FO panicked, I think they just wanted to make sure they keep some guys around. Just think what would have happened if we lost Starks and Colon in one offseason and then tried to replace them in one off season....

Everyone says Arians loves TEs. He uses 2 and 3 TE sets all the time, so he needs 2 or 3 TEs. But the gap between Miller and everyone else is enormous, which makes him a priority to me (and I hope the team). Not sure why they went with Johnson this year. Looks like they don't even expect him to make the team. Maybe they just wanted to see what he could do... Maybe he could take a McHugh kind of role and play some ST. I don't know.

heath and the TE's were actually used alot last year.    heath had 7 less catches than holmes.  niether can keep pace with the old man.   he willed this team along last year.  hines is still the man. they will sign miller to a fair deal for both parties.  he does alot for us.  he and ben are just getting comfortable with each other and this offense.  the whole offense should be better this year.  it is year 3 with the same coaching staff and system.  i think they want to keep most of the parts intact for now.  why wouldn't they?    moore needs to be a bigger part too.   moore total yards then willie.  a better yard per carry average.  more TD's.  then got limited touches after willie tried to comeback.  he had quite the productive year for this offense and then they made him vanish.    ?????? why???????

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think we're in any danger of losing Miller any time soon, even if we don't sign him to a big deal. Putting a franchise tag on him when it comes time might actually work in our favor, as the top five TEs don't make as much as those in other positions.

Also, if there is no salary cap next year, other rules change as well, such as the number of years a player has to have under his belt until he becomes a free agent. I think it increases to six years, which means we'd still have rights to Miller for a while longer.

That being said, I hope that the front office can put together a deal for big Heath before the season begins. He's underutilized but still an integral part of our offense with catching and blocking. If this were a team that leaned heavily on the TE position to make catches, Miller would be a Pro Bowler every year.

If the Steelers plan to Keep Heath Miller, they better resign him prior to the start of the season; After the season start, the F/O typically never negotiates during the season, Miller will walk in 2010. This would be a bad move by the F/O too.

Miller will get signed as long as its a fair contract, he seems comfortable where he is right now, Tomlin loves this guy so I dont foresee any problems, Heath doesnt expect to break the bank, he likes it here and isnt looking for a new team....

I'm curious that if the Steelers do not find an adequate 3rd WR to step up for the 2009 season, will you see Heath Miller stepping out into some WR sets?  Holmes out to one side with Ward and Miller to the other while having two blocking TEs or one TE with an option/blocking back.

Uh....  because we need more than just 1 TE on the team. Heath isn't going anywhere, some of you need to relax.

I agree that Heath is staying period. All the talk about Green leaving the Steelers and Whitten and others is irrelevant to the 2009 Steelers and their strengths. Heath has soft hands...does not drop balls....blocks very well and most of all gets yards after catch which moves the chains. His style of play is very valuable to the Steelers. He may not get the catches or yards of some but he gets some very clutch 1st downs and td's.
