quoting Dunio:

I like his reasoning. He said that because of his success, he is going to be a marked man next season. To withstand playing almost every down and taking more abuse, he needs a little extra weight to help accomplish his goals.

He said that he expects to play around 195...that isn't exactly a real big guy. If he feels more confident at 195, I highly doubt that it will slow him down very much.

195? I haven't seen that in a while lol.

Holmes is a stud....putting on weight is a good thing. Look for him to have his best year yet this year.  I can see it now..... Ben rolls right, he's got Holmes wide open on a slant..... Bang!  Touchdown Pittsburgh !!!!

If Holmes uses the extra weight that was in the upper body correct, it can actually enhance your speed.  When you run, your speed is also highly affected by your most upright (chest) balance and pumping your arms ( like pistons) with open hands (cutting aero-dynamically).

Trained right as for the above and Holmes should become faster and actually become harder to put the initial bump on.  It will help him break tackles in the open field.

What he does have to worry about is putting the muscle on in a way that is bulked as apposed to toned addition.  If it is bulked, it will affect his normal/natural/trained arm angle to catching the football.  Especially openhanded and facing the QB type receptions.
